Testing

A new type of coronavirus has been making people sick. This new (novel) type causes COVID-19. We’re still learning about COVID-19 because it is new, but it is not “just another cold.” Symptoms range from mild to severe respiratory illness.

Considerations for who should get tested

People who have symptoms of COVID-19.

People who have had close contact (within six feet of an infected person for at least 15 minutes) with someone with confirmed COVID-19.

People who have been asked or referred to get testing by their healthcare provider, local or state health department.

Testing is available to everyone, with or without symptoms. Call your primary care physician, an urgent care facility, or your county health department if you think you need to be tested. If you do get tested, you should self-quarantine/isolate at home pending test results and follow your healthcare provider or a public health professional’s advice.

You can also utilize the Ingham County Symptom Checker Tool or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Coronavirus Self-Checker Tool HERE to help you determine if you should get tested.

Where to get tested

Testing for COVID-19 is available at various locations such as local hospitals, urgent care clinics, and pharmacies. To find the closest testing location to you, use the State of Michigan Coronavirus Testing Location Finder or National Coronavirus Testing Location Finder.
